These notes are by no means exhaustive but we hope they will be of help, especially if you have not entered before. If you have any questions please contact the Show Chairman, whose telephone number is given on the show schedule, of which your WI Secretary now has a copy.
CLASS 1 Cooperative Class: Seasons CLASS 1 is judged on interpretation
of the theme and the staging of the items as well as the quality of the three
items asked for. Look for a balance between the size of the items - don't
let one item dominate the exhibit. BASE ONLY: ie: no sides or back. However, you could incorporate a "drape" as part of your staging if desired. If the base is covered with fabric it should be stretched over the base to give a smooth surface with neat corners; it is part of your staging and will be judged as such. Make sure the thickness of the fabric doesn't make your base larger than the 2' x 2' space. If you raise items from the base on blocks for staging, make sure these are finished neatly whether they fully are on show or not. When you have completed staging your exhibit, stand back and look to make sure nothing overhangs the sides of the 2' x 2' area. FLOWER ARRANGEMENT: ONE ITEM OF COOKERY really means that, ie: one item, not six fairy cakes or scones, etc. The cookery item may be sweet or savoury. Confectionery is not classed as a cookery item. Cookery and craft items are removed from the exhibit for judging. If at all possible, don't attach items (particularly craft) to the base because the judge's steward might not be able to reposition them in exactly the same way. The cooperative entry enables several members to join in to pool ideas and skills. A basic requirement is that you have fun putting it together!
It's Christmas! : A Christmas Tree Decoration We are asking for a form of hanger to be part of the tree decoration, so that it may be hung for display after judging. We have not specified a particular size because we did not want to limit your ideas about shape. However, in theory they should be of a size that you would expect to put on a tree at home. Any type of craft material may be used
as long as it is suitable for the object and fairly durable. CLASS 3 Preserve: Nature's Store This is the class where a copy of "On With The Show" would come in useful. A preserve should have "lengthy keeping ability" which rules out fruit curds, mincemeat, uncooked chutneys and relishes. Size and type of container is left to the exhibitor and depends on the produce being preserved; in this way the choice of preserve is left open to the exhibitor. According to "On With the Show" the external appearance, (ie: container, label and cover), forms part of the overall mark.
CLASS 4 A
Floral Exhibit from LNFWI Groups: This year we have not specified a "pedestal" exhibit" in order to give more scope to the style of container(s) used. We leave it to your imagination and to what is transportable to the showground. The exhibit must be on your own 4' x 4' base board, which will be placed on the ground. ddddd |
